We are venturing out on this marvellous adventure exploring the three countries: Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The main link between the three is the Istrian Peninsula and most of it is connected today with a superb biking trail Parenzana, nicknamed “The route of health and friendship”.
We are Sašo, Tina and Ervin, three tour guides and friends from Slovenia. Our passion has always been sharing the beauty of our country with travelers through our travel agency Private Guide Slovenia. Tina has been a tour guide with Rick Steves for 20 years, Sašo for 13 years and Ervin has been a local guide for Rick’s tours. In the midst of the pandemic the team decided to start doing Zoom happy hours, virtual tours and writing blogs about all things Slovenia.
Highlights of our route:
- Parenzana biking trail
- The famous port of Trieste
- Slovenian coastline
- Salt pans from 1278
- Hilltop towns of Istria - Grožnjan and Motovun
- Coastal towns Poreč and Rovinj
- Roman ruins in Pula
- Food and wine
- Unique cultural mix
Join us and peddle with us as we explore the area between Trieste and Pula, two biggest cities of our journey. In between our pathway will be crossed with lovely coastal resorts, salt pans, charming hill-top towns, quaint little villages, abundance of intriguing nature. We will gather our strength by eating good food and drinking some wonderful wine, produced at some of the best wine growing terrains of the region.

May 15-29, 2021
We start on Saturday, May 15 with a live virtual event with Saso, Tina and Ervin who will be on location in Trieste, Italy.
The general format of information in written and video content each week:
The actual mileage is 127 miles over two weeks. If you wish to join the biking or walking challenge, set a goal that works for you! You may decide upon an alternate pacing schedule if you want to have more gentle pace. Walking, running, yoga, cleaning your house, grocery shopping - time spent doing most all sorts of activities add up to mileage. Set your pace and keep track on your own with a Fitbit or keep track as you wish.
You may also prefer to not partake in the virtual walking part of the experience and enjoy the cultural and historical aspects of the experience- it's all good!
We will dive deep into history - walking with the Romans, observing the Venetians, being intrigued with the Austro-Hungarians and marvel at the beautiful cultural mix of the three countries seen on the plates, in wine glasses as well as in meeting the fascinating and hardworking locals.
1) A good pair of walking shoes/hiking boots (if you are taking part in the virtual walking challenge) or a bike if you plan to cycle
2) A Fitbit or an alternate method to keep track of distance (remember we will supply you with a conversion table to refer to for all your other daily activities that add up to mileage!)
3) A sense of curiosity & adventure-we are so excited to do this with you!
4) Sign up with your email and program payment of $75
5) Once you sign up you will receive a welcome email from our Coach app that guides you with content each day
Live-streaming is scheduled for 11:00am Central Daylight Time on Saturdays (9am PDT/12pm EDT).
The Slovenian team will broadcast live and show us around where we are on the path.
