Slovenia is a hidden gem right in the centre of Europe. It is usually not on people’s bucket list, but once you arrive you are in for a pleasant surprise. Most people compare Slovenia with either Switzerland or New Zealand. Friendly people, quaint villages, unspoilt nature, never ending greenery, tasty food and great wines, are just a few of the characteristics of our lovely country.
We are Sašo, Tina and Ervin, three tour guides and friends from Slovenia. Our passion has always been sharing the beauty of our country with travelers through our travel agency Private Guide Slovenia. Tina has been a tour guide with Rick Steves for 20 years, Sašo for 13 years and Ervin has been a local guide for Rick’s tours. In the midst of the pandemic the team decided to start doing Zoom happy hours, virtual tours and writing blogs about all things Slovenia.

Check out this great video of the highlights of our upcoming experience!
Saturday, March 13 - Saturday, March 27, 2021
We start on Saturday, March 13 at 10:00am-11:00am CST with a live virtual event with the Slovenian guide team who will be on location in Slovenia.
The general format of information in written and video content each week:
We have a goal of approximately 53 miles in two weeks - or 26.5 miles a week. Walking, running, skiing, yoga, cleaning your house, grocery shopping, shoveling snow - time spent doing most all sorts of activities add up to mileage. You may decide upon an alternate pacing schedule if you want to have more gentle pace. Set your pace and keep track on your own with a Fitbit or keep track as you wish. It is an honor system! You may also prefer to not partake in the virtual walking part of the experience and enjoying the cultural and historical aspects- it's all good!
We will venture in to the “Highlands” of Slovenia or as it is officially named Upper Carniola, to make things more simple the North-Western part of the country, known for its rugged beauty. We will explore some of the most famous pilgrimage sights of the area. From one to the other we will follow some local walking paths and series of unexpected things will follow - we will learn about history, nature, sports, castles, local arts and crafts, cook local and get you acquainted with some of the best wines of Europe. And to add to a surprise, we will even visit a Slovene minority living in Italy. Borders here are so close and so common for the local folks, that sometimes we don’t even notice them. Dobrodošli!
1) A good pair of walking shoes/hiking boots (if taking part in the virtual walking challenge)
2) A Fitbit or an alternate method to keep track of distance (remember we will supply you with a conversion table to refer to for all your other daily activities that add up to mileage!)
3) A sense of curiosity & adventure- this is our maiden virtual voyage in Slovenia and we are so excited to do this with you!
4) Sign up with your email and program payment of $75
Live-streaming is scheduled for 10am-11am Central Standard Time on Saturdays. Saso, Tina and Ervin will broadcast from Slovenia and discuss details about where we are on the path. These live events will be recorded and will be accessible for your viewing at your leisure. All content both live and pre-recorded will be available to you through our My Coach app, private Facebook group and YouTube page. You do not need to have a Facebook account to enjoy this experience!
After filling out the form you will get a welcome email from our coaching app that instruct you in downloading the app My Coach which you can also access online (on your computer) or on your smart phone. Via the app, you will received content daily during the program with lessons and information relating to where we are which will inspire you on your virtual pilgrimage path.
Share your experience with others in the group. What are your favorite walking shoes? How are you doing with staying motivated? What activities are you doing to add up the miles? Again, it is not necessary to belong to Facebook to enjoy this experience!
