Come explore the ‘Ile de France’ (the island of France), the area around Paris with a radius of about 50 miles rich with charming villages, historic châteaux, parks and forests. Inspired by the books by Annabel Simms, “An Hour from Paris” and “Half an Hour from Paris”, join me as we use public transport, train, bus, taxi for our day trips outside of Paris. We will do plenty of walking each day, plan on anywhere from 3-10 miles/day.  This trip is especially interesting for those who have been to Paris and ready to go off the beaten path and get into the countryside that is just a stones’ throw from metropolitan Paris. Even for travelers who have never been to Paris, this tour will orient you to the City of Light and prepare you to explore it with confidence.

Every day we will have excursions planned, but you will have time on your own to explore as you wish.

Today we have a shorter half-day trip to visit the magnificent 14th-century royal fortress Chateau de Vincennes, after we will explore the gardens and ruins of the colonial pavilions of the Jardin Tropicale from the 1907 exhibition. Day 5 - Wednesday, April 6  Senlis (half to full day trip)

Travel to Senlis to explore a town with history dating back more than 2,000 years with sites including an impressive Cathedral Notre Dame (built in the same time period as Notre Dame of Paris), medieval buildings and winding cobbled streets.  You may wish to visit the nearby Chateau de Chantilly in the afternoon. Day 6- Thursday, April 7   St Germain-en-Laye (half day trip)

The town attracted artists and was the former home of painter Maurice Denis, now a museum of Symbolist art. We will visit both museums, explore the town and find delicious lunch before returning to Paris. Dinner on your own. Walk: medium
